프란치스코 교황성하께 드립니다.

 

한국 가톨릭교회의 일원으로서 저희 ‘대한민국수호천주교인모임’의 신자들은 프란치스코 교황성하께 하느님의 축복과 그리스도의 은총이 무한히 내리시길 기도합니다.

 

아울러 저희 신자들의 근심의 마음도 이번 서신을 통해 아뢰고자 하는 것은 다음과 같습니다. 현재 지구촌의 번영과 평화를 지키기 위한 국제사회의 노력에도 불구하고, 지금의 한반도는 북한 공산세력의 계속되는 도발로 말미암아 그 어느 때보다 엄중한 위기상황에 직면해 있습니다. 이런 와중에 10월 29일 한국의 문재인 대통령은 교황성하를 알현하여 교황님의 방북을 요청할 것으로 알려졌습니다. 평화의 사도이신 교황성하의 북한 방문이 닫혀진 북한지도자의 마음을 주님의 사랑으로 활짝 열고, 개인의 자유와 신앙마저 억압하고 있는 공산세력의 폭정 하에서 북한 주민의 인권이 조금이나마 개선되는 계기가 된다면 저희로서도 반대할 이유가 없습니다. 그러나 그리스도의 대리자이신 교황 성하의 방문이 주님의 숭고한 뜻과 배치되는 정치적 목적으로 이용될 수 있기에 저희들은 이 점에 대하여 매우 우려하는 바입니다.

 

또한 교황성하의 방북이 주님의 은혜 속에 성사되기 위해서는, 우선 평양당국의 초청이 선행되어야하고, 그 초청이 가톨릭 신앙에 비추어 진정성이 있는지를 평양교구장 서리이신 염수정 추기경의 방북, 판단으로 가려져야 할 것입니다. 이러한 사전조치 없는 문대통령의 교황성하 북한방문 요청은, 대통령 선거를 앞둔 시점에서 오직 여당후보의 당선을 위한 정치적인 이벤트라고 밖에 볼 수 없습니다.

 

문재인 대통령은 이미 북한의 김정은과 미국의 트럼프 대통령과의 만남을 활용하여, 북한의 비핵화와는 하등 상관없는 정치적 이벤트로 이용한 사례가 많이 있습니다. 결국 이 같은 정치이벤트 이후 김정은은 북한의 비핵화는 커녕 북한 주민에 대한 폭압정치를 더욱 가속화하였고 북한의 핵개발 능력은 오히려 한층 더 고도화되었습니다.

 

현재 한국은 대통령 선거를 눈앞에 두고 있는 상황이며, 문재인 대통령이 속한 집권여당은 이재명이라는 인물을 대선후보로 확정한 바 있습니다. 이재명 후보는 각종 부정부패와 조직폭력세력들과의 연루설로 국민적 우려가 높은 인물입니다. 일각에서는 그를 두고 ‘알 카포네’라는 잔혹한 마피아의 두목 같은 인물이라고도 합니다. 알 카포네가 1920년대 금주법에 위배되는 불법 주류제조를 통해 당시에 이미 1000억 달러 상당의 불법자금을 축적하고 검찰, 경찰, 판사 등을 뇌물로 장악하여 자신은 ‘밤의 황제’로 군림하였습니다.

 

한국의 이재명은 자신의 정치적 반대자를 여러 명 정신병원에 감금했다는 의심을 받고 있으며, 각종 스캔들은 물론이고, 최근에는 부동산 개발이익으로 만든 천문학적인 로비자금으로 검찰, 경찰, 사법부를 농락하여 제대로 된 수사조차 이루어지지 못하고 있는 실정입니다.

 

작금의 한국 국민들은 이 같은 정치적 상황에 크게 우려하고 있으며, 정권교체의 열망은 더없이 높아지고 있는 실정입니다. 이러한 엄중한 현실을 외면한 채 사랑과 평화의 사도이신 교항성하께서, 저들이 기획한 정치공작에 휘말려 북한의 평양을 방문하여 김정은을 만나는 장면을 연출하신다면, 문재인 정권은 이를 한반도 평화프로세스의 완성으로 소개하며 다가오는 대통령 선거에 십분 활용할 것이 분명합니다.

 

알 카포네라는 마피아의 두목 같은 인물, 각종 스캔들에 휩싸여 있는 인물을 지원하기 위해 기획되는 정치공작에 이용당한다면, 한국의 570만 성도들과 북한의 지하신자들에게는 악몽 같은 현실이 될 것입니다.

 

언젠가 교황성하께서 북한을 방문하시어 ‘동방의 예루살렘’으로 회자되던 신앙의 기적을 다시금 세우실 기회는 반드시 오리라 확신합니다. 그러기 위해서는 북한주민들이 신앙의 뿌리를 찾고 이를 누릴 수 있는 정치사회적 환경의 작은 씨앗이라도 움트는 시간이 필요하다고 저희는 믿고 있습니다. 고귀한 교황님의 발걸음이 사악한 세력의 정치공작에 악용되는 것만은 반드시 막아야 하겠기에, 공의롭고 결연한 의지를 보여주실 것을 한국 가톨릭평신도의 마음과 신념을 모아 교항성하께 간곡히 호소 드립니다.

 

끝으로 교황성하께서 보여주신 한국교회에 대한 기도와 애정에 대하여 진심으로 감사드립니다. 자애로운 하느님께 교황성하께서 육신과 영혼이 모두 평안하시기를 기도드립니다.

 As a limb of Korea’s Catholic Church, the faithfuls of "the Patriotic Catholics for Korea’ pray that the blessing of God and grace of Christ will be given to Your Holiness infinitely.
 
 The Catholic faithfuls of Korean church are very concerned about the followings. Despite the international community's efforts to protect the prosperity and peace of the global community, Korean Peninsula is facing presently a more severe crisis than ever due to continued provocations of North Korean communist regime. In this situation, on October 29, South Korea's President Moon Jae In is expected to visit the Holy See and ask for the Pope's visit to North Korea.
 
 We have no reason to oppose papal visit to North Korea if the visit of Pyongyang by Your Holiness, as an apostle of peace, opens the heart of the closed North Korean leader, with the love of the Lord, and if it serves as an opportunity to improve the human rights of North Koreans who are groaning under the tyranny of communist forces that suppress individual freedom and faith. We are very concerned about this because the visit of the Holy Father, the agent of Christ, can be used for political purposes contrary to the noble will of the Lord.
 
 In order for the Holy Father's visit to North Korea to take place in the grace of the Lord, the invitation of Pyongyang authorities must be preceded. In addition, whether the invitation is sincere in light of the Catholic faith must be judged through the visit to the North Korea by the apostolic administrator of the Pyongyang diocese, Andrew Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung. President Moon's request of papal visit to North Korea ahead of the presidential election in March, next year without such preliminary measures can only be seen as a political event for the victory of the ruling party candidate.
 
 President Moon Jae In has already used the meeting between North Korea's Kim Jong-un and former U.S. President Trump as an political event that have nothing to do with North Korea's denuclearization and earned landslide victories in national local elections. In the end, after such a political event, Kim Jong-un accelerated the tyranny against the residents of North Korea and its nuclear capabilities became even more advanced, let alone denuclearization.
 
 Currently, South Korea is facing presidential election in March next year, and the ruling party, which includes President Moon, has confirmed Lee Jae-myung as presidential candidate. The candidate, Lee Jae-myung, is a person of high public concern due to rumors of various corruption and involvement with gangsters. Some say that he is like a cruel Mafia boss called "Al Capone." Al Capone had already accumulated $100 billion worth of illegal funds and seized prosecutors, police, and judges with bribes through the production of illegal liquor in violation of the prohibition act of alcohol in the 1920s, reigning as the "King of the Night."
 
 South Korea's Lee Jae-myung is suspected of detaining several political opponents in mental hospitals, and the investigators have recently failed to even conduct a proper investigation by Lee’s harassing of the prosecution, police, and judiciary with astronomical lobbying funds made from real estate development profits.
 
 The Korean people are very concerned about this political situation, and the desire for regime change is increasing. If Your Holiness, the apostle of love and peace, is caught up in their political maneuvering and visits Pyongyang, North Korea, and meets Kim Jong-un, the Moon Jae In regime will introduce it as the completion of the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
 
 If Your Holiness are used for political maneuvers designed to support a person like Al Capone, Mafia boss and embroiled in various scandals, it will be a reality of nightmare for 5.7 million faithfuls in South Korea and underground believers in North Korea.
 
 We are sure there will be a chance in the future for the Holy Father to visit North Korea and rebuild the miracle of faith that was talked as "Jerusalem in the East." In order to do so, we believe that some time for even a small seed in the political and social environment for North Koreans to grow and for the roots of faith to take is needed. Since we must prevent the noble Pope’s steps from being abused for political maneuvering by evil forces, we earnestly appeal to Your Holiness in representation of the Korean Catholic laymen's hearts and beliefs to show their righteous and determined will.
 
 As Catholic believers of Korea, we sincerely thank Your Holiness for your prayers and affection for the Korean church. To our benevolent God, we pray that Holy Father will be at peace in both body and soul.
